The Pascale Music Institute offers three orchestra levels. Graduates of our beginning strings classes are eligible to play in the Training Orchestra. More advanced students (through sixth grade) can audition for the Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra. More advanced students through high school age can audition for the Los Angeles Children’s Chamber Orchestra.
Our orchestras perform regularly. All three orchestras perform twice a year at our program’s annual concerts. LACO and LACCO participate in Music in the Parks festivals, in theme parks. Every four years, we perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Because it is so unusual to have a high caliber orchestra of young children, we are asked to participate in many events, ranging from Los Angeles’ Chinese New Year celebration to the Tournament of Roses Parade to PBS’s internationally broadcast Holiday Celebration program. Last year we were invited to audition and then performed on 2 rounds for ‘America’s Got Talent’.
The Training Orchestra and LACO are open to only students of the Pascale Music Institute. LACCO, our chamber orchestra, is open to all. It has rotating conductors, including LA Philharmonic members Robert Gupta and Tao Ni. We frequently bring in high level coaches, especially when preparing for an important concert. The students participate in sectionals, which not only develop their technical and musical skills, but also promote camaraderie and pride within each section.
